Mission and Student Learning Outcomes

LabMission statement:

The major in Biology is designed to give students a substantial foundation in biology with an emphasis on investigative methods. The courses provide a broad background for students who seek awareness of the living world and their role in it, as well as training preparatory to professional schools, graduate schools, or science education careers.

Learning outcomes for the Biology Department are as follows:

  1. Students develop the ability to evaluate scientific information critically, using analytical reasoning and quantitative skills.
  2. Students strengthen their skills in reading, writing, oral communication, and creative thinking.
  3. Students demonstrate knowledge in three major subdisciplines of biology: cellular and molecular biology, organismal biology, and ecology and evolution.
